A room with a view

There is no doubt that one of the essential requirements for some people when it comes to picking this or that hotel is the fact that it offers good views. It is no wonder, then, that the best rooms –that is the most sought after and the most expensive- are considered to be those that allow us to discover the best spots in the city –and, in the case of Barcelona, to enjoy the Mediterranean sea in all its glory- at a simple glance.

One of the most characteristic buildings in Barcelona’s skyline is the one housing Hotel Ars (+info) in the Olympic Port. One of the most exclusive hotels that has accommodated members of the European royal family and the most famous Hollywood stars. One of its major assets is its location –two steps away from the beach- that, along with its height, is responsible for the stunning views that even allow us to make out ships sailing the open sea. The views over the city itself are as well extraordinary and provide beautiful scenes eith Torre Agbar or Sagrada Familia in the background.

In 2003 Hotel Eurostars Grand Marina (+info) opened its doors in Barcelona’s World Trade Center. Both the premises and the views it offers are a real luxury.

Not far from this area, on the Montjuïc mountain, we find Hotel Miramar Barcelona, placed in the building that housed “Televisión Española” in Catalunya. The complex was refurbished along with the gardens that surrounded it, and the result was this luxury hotel with astonishing views over the sea.

Perched on the Tibidabo mountain, Gran Hotel La Florida was chosen by American Jennifer López during her visit to the city. From one of its exclusive suites, the artist enjoyed some of the most exquisite panoramic views over the Catalan capital. If we want to emulate her, it’s basically a matter of money.

The day Hotel Hesperia Tower was topped with its characteristic dome, media and neighbours gathered in order to witness such event. With no doubt, eating in the restaurant run by laureate Santi Santamaría is one of the main attractions of the five star hotel, and so are the views from any of the rooms, not only over Barcelona, but practically over the whole coast.

Princesa Sofía Gran Hotel, a landmark in Barcelona built in the mid-seventies, is also a good option when it comes to contemplating the city from a high standard room.

Views are the common denominators of the before mentioned hotels, and so is luxury. However, enjoying good views can also be afforded by not so privileged budgets. In this sense, we should mention the four star Gran Hotel Torre Catalunya, located just by Estació de Sants –and so a good place to stay if we happen to come to Barcelona in order to travel by AVE. Its 23 floors will allow us to make out Barcelona from a different point of view.
